Having a Nevada registered agent is a requirement of every registered business in the state.
You can’t complete the formation of your LLC (or other company structure) in Nevada (and other states) without having designated a registered agent.

Who Can Be a Nevada Registered Agent?
In simple terms, a Nevada registered agent is a person or business entity that has a physical address in the state (a post office box is not sufficient).
So that means that you can:
- Serve as your own registered agent (if you are resident in Nevada)
- You can designate a friend or family member – or your lawyer or accountant – as your registered agent

Requirements of a Nevada Registered Agent
There a number of requirements to be a registered agent in Nevada, which is why most people choose to go with a registered agent service.
The corporate law in the state of Nevada sets out these requirements for registered agents:
- an individual or a domestic or foreign entity transacting business as a registered agent for 10 or more entities or any registered agent who elects to be registered.
- A noncommercial registered agent is “an individual or a domestic or foreign entity that serves in this State as the agent for service of process of an entity,” or ‘the individual who holds the office or other position in an entity that is designated as the agent for service of process.
- Finally, a business owner serving as his or her own registered agent is simply referred to as a represented entity.
No matter who you choose to be your registered agent, they need to be physically present at the address provided to the state during standard business hours.
What will my Nevada Registered Agent do For Me?
Aside from allowing you to form your LLC or other company structure in the state of Nevada, your Nevada registered agent service supports your business in three main ways: administrative, legal and compliance. In Nevada LLCs file the Annual List of Managers or Members, which is akin to the annual report in other states. There’s a $150 filing fee for the list itself for LLCs, but then you’ll renew your license at the same time, which has a $200 fee for LLCs. You can file online or using the official forms.

Having a registered agent service as opposed to using your own address gives you more privacy. For example, if you use your home or private office, that will become publicly available on the Secretary of State’s Business Entity Search Page.
There’s also the additional discretion that a registered agent service provides – no one wants their neighbour, employees or clients to be present when a business has to accept service of process in the event of legal action.

Forming a Business (LLC) in Nevada
Of course choosing a registered agent is just one part of forming a business entity in Nevada.
